The History of the Eddy Family Association

The Eddy Family Association originated at Eddyville on September 15th, 1920 and incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on October 29, 1923.

The association was not to focus on one particular person or branch of the Eddy family, but encompass a number of lines.

The Rev. David Brewer Eddy was the first president of the Eddy Family Association, Will Currier Eddy, Vice President, James Williamson Eddy, Secretary, and Clinton Lucius Eddy, Treasurer. For the first 3 years James Williamson Eddy also served as Chair of the Genealogical Committee, but due to his own request, in 1923 Ruth Story Devereux Eddy, who was already a member of the committee, took over the position. In 1925 she was placed in charge of a genealogical compilation which would be published in Boston, Massachusetts in 1930 and titled The Eddy Family in America.

Throughout the years various positions have been added to the association to fulfill needs and demands. The people who have filled these positions have helped carry on the legacy started by the founders of the EFA for over 85 years.

The members of the EFA who have supported the organisation for countless years, by becoming members, submitting data, sharing their research and volunteering when possible are no less important.  We are a group of individuals with the common goals of preserving our history, continuing our research and publishing our findings.

The EFA Bulletins have been part of the association since September 17th, 1921.
The first bulletin described the Eddy Coat of Arms, along with information on Vicar William Eddye of Cranbrook, his sons Samuel and John and some transcribed documents dated from the early 1600's. At the time, the bulletin cost $1.00 per year in addition to the membership fee.

The Edddy family reunions began at the same time the EFA was formed, being held yearly from 1923 until present.  Over 150 individuals attended the second annual reunion. Each family present gave a report on their family tree, and it was announced that the EFA had 200 members and genealogical forms being sent in on a regular basis.
The Eddy family had come together from all over the country to document their history.
