We have found that a number of names from the 2005 Supplement have not been added into our database and will be working on this throughout the winter.
We also have a number of items that will be transcribed and preserved for future generations of the EFA.
We are still looking for a few new members to help with transcriptions and data entry.
Members must have a computer and a genealogy program and will be provided with the database to enter the data into.
We are also still looking for family researchers to send us any information on Eddy families that you may come along during your research, whether they relate to your family or not. Newspaper articles, birth announcements, obituaries and articles that will help the EFA find out more about the lives of our family members.
Most local libraries have their old newspapers on microfilm, so if you are looking for other family members, please keep an eye open for the surname Eddy.
We are also looking for short articles to post on our blog.
We would greatly appreciate your help.
Please contact Stephanie Eddy at Genealogist@eddyfamilyassociation.com

The Eddy Family Association is currently having a special on memberships!
If you are a current member, you can purchase gift memberships for your family members for only $5 a year.
Not a current member? Join for our regular low dues of $15 a year and then sign others up for only $5 a year.
This purpose of this offering is to interest new family members- especially those under 50- in taking an active role the organization.
We won’t send you a bunch of pleas for money during the year like some organizations- we do genealogical research and publish two Bulletins a year.

The EFA is looking for a few good officers! These volunteer positions do not take up a lot of time, but are a great way to connect with ‘cousins’ and help us keep the Eddy Family Association going and growing. All officers must have access to email as that is how we conduct business.

Positions currently needed:
Book shipper- The Treasurer will email you when we receive an order and you send it out. We only have genealogy books for sale- no plates, cups, or other stuff to worry about. Currently, our shipper drops off orders at the post office and they are sent out via Media Mail, but this can be negotiated. The post office is set up for you to create and pay for mailing online and your letter carrier can pick them up on your doorstep. There are 30-35 boxes of books that need to be stored in climate- controlled conditions. This can be in your home or in a climate controlled storage facility near your home. The EFA pays all shipping and storage costs- you provide the labor. Volume of orders varies greatly from zero to 10-12 a month.

Recording Secretary- the Recording Secretary (RS) gets the Bulletin into the mail. Originally, the RS kept membership records – on 3×5 cards- but that has migrated to the Treasurer’s role and is done with a FileMakerPro database. The RS will be emailed an edited and completed Word file of the semi-annual Bulletin (usually April and October) and gets it copied, addressed, stamped, and into the mail. The EFA pays the printing, labeling, and postage costs- you provide the labor.

Vice President- with most of the EFA officers in their 50s-80s, we are hoping to find a younger member to take on the role of Vice President with the intent of becoming President at some point in the future. This point in the future could be one to ten years out. We’d like this person to lead efforts to bring younger members to the association to help ensure its continued vitality.

Interested in any of the above roles- or see something else you can contribute? We’d love to hear from you. For more information about the Book Shipper or Recording Secretary roles contact Elaine Darrah, Treasurer, treasurer@eddyfamilyassociation.com or 209-722-7152; for more information about the Vice President’s role contact Elaine or Gary Eddey, President, president@eddyfamilyassociation.com We’d love to hear from you!

The Zachariah Eddy Homestead was built in 1803 by Captain Joshua Eddy as a wedding gift to Zachariah from his father when he married Sarah Edson.

This homestead is well known to us as the EFA has held its yearly reunion on the property for a number of years.

Are there any other Eddy Homesteads or properties that were owned by Eddy Family members for a number of years, or is there information available about the land that Eddy families originally settled on?

While original homestead information would be interesting to share with other Eddy family members, farms and homes in towns occupied by Eddy’s at one time would be very interesting to learn about also.

This all ties in with finding more information about the actual lives of our ancestors and knowing more than a name or date. We all know that they lived somewhere, had a job, perhaps contributed to their towns history regardless of whether they were a public figure, a weaver, brick layer or housewife.

What we are looking for is the information on their lives. Our current database is over 80,000 individuals. It is impossible for us to find information on every single member. Although we try and we have started.

We have input obituaries, birth announcements, census information and other data which all helps provide a story on each person rather than just their name.

Becoming a member of the Eddy Family Association is very important as you become part of a group of people trying to preserve our rich and extensive heritage.

By contributing information on your ancestors lives you are helping preserve information about the person and not just their name, birth and death dates.

Every member of the Eddy Family regardless of whether they lead a prominent life or a simple one is equally important to our history.

As years go by, despite the amount of interest of preservation many items will begin to disappear. Homes are torn down to make way for new apartments and state of the art homes in order to keep up with our ever growing communities. Small libraries are closed in favor of larger facilities; local records are often moved and become inaccessible to the individuals who are searching for information from them.

Our heritage becomes harder and harder to find.

Please take the time to submit information, photographs and anything else you find to the EFA so that we can preserve it with our records.

I know many people believe that we have so much information they would be just be sending us something we already have. This cannot be further from the truth.

We may have names and dates, but we may not have information on the actual person’s life. Who they were, what they did, what they looked like.

I hope to hear from many people as we expand our search on our Eddy Family ancestors.

The Eddy Family Association would like to send a special thank you to Ryan Gary who stumbled upon a group of tombstones on a private lot in Norton, Massachusetts.

The stones which are partially broken are that of

John Eddy born January 25th 176?, died Sept 1?, 17??

Charlotte Eddy wife of John Eddy born April 10th, 1797 died August 23, 1856

Hannah Eddy wife of John born June 14 1772 died April 11th, 1839

John Eddy Jr. born August 9th, 1798 died October 6th 1865

EFA # 9474 JOHN EDDY (Abiel, Caleb, Eleazar, John of Taunton) born June 8 1769 in Norton, MA and died Sept. 17, 1852 in Norton, MA. He married Hannah Leonard of Taunton.

Although the EFA Genealogy of 1930 states she died in 1840, her tombstone states 1839.

Their son EFA # 9681 JOHN EDDY JR. born August 9, 1798 and died Oct. 6 1865 in Norton, MA. He married Charlotte Wilbour of Raynham who predeceased him and then married second, Louisa S..

Due to the age of the tombstones and the fact that this seems to be a small family cemetery that has been lost in the years, it is possible that other members of this family are buried at the same location.

The EFA has so many individuals in its database that it is impossible to directly research each individual family. However when information is sent to us such as this we do try to match it with a current family in our database and update our records. If we cannot match the family we do start to research the family in order to try and merge it with one of our family lines.

The EFA does not have all of the information on the various Eddy Families. It is extremely important that individuals continue to send us updates and new information whenever possible.

We greatly appreciate the time and effort not only of our direct family members, but also those that are not related to us such as Gary, yet due to an interest in history continue to send us information on any Eddy family members they find.
